Wound Care Centers, Inc. Wound Management ProgramSM has treated over 534,000 patients and nearly 1.2 million chronic wounds since 1988, with a median time to heal of 32 days. The healing characteristics of every patient, captured in a comprehensive database, have created improved clinical pathways, and resulted in more effective treatment protocols. Wound Care Centers utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to healing through a JCAHO-compliant continuum of care model. Each Wound Care Center® is unique and focuses on the needs of its’ local community. All Wound Care Center programs may include the following components:
Outpatient
Wound Care Center programs are technically advanced, surgically-oriented, interdisciplinary outpatient care that has proven to be highly effective in healing wounds that resist conventional therapy.
Inpatient
This component is designed to prevent wounds from occurring in patients admitted to the hospital and provide early identification of those patients admitted with wounds treated with a consistent clinical pathway to reduce their length of stay.
Outreach
This component provides post-acute facilities with state-of-the-art wound care delivered at the facility for those patients that may have difficulty with transportation into the Wound Care Center. The Nurse Practioner uses the Wound Care Centers, Inc. clinical pathway, focusing on infection control, compression therapy, off-loading, and debridement, when appropriate. The goal of the program is to reduce the patient’s wound volume, reduce pain, prevent or treat infection and heal the wound.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
HBOT is an adjunct therapy in which the patient is entirely enclosed in a pressure chamber, breathing 100% oxygen at greater than one atmosphere (ATA) pressure that may improve healing and reduce healing time. HBOT provides a synergistic and beneficial effect in the treatment of many kinds of ischemic of hypoxic wounds. HBOT is only for patients who are clinically indicated for this therapy and it is only available at certain programs.
